Field Trips
The flexibility of student schedules in the Personalized Learning model at Forest Charter School allows for an emphasis on experiential learning. In fact, FCS encourages you to tap into the wide range of field trip opportunities available to you in this diverse community.
In order to enhance the learning experience, Forest Charter School offers school wide field trips throughout the year. Check with your ES to learn how to participate.

FCS: Field Trip Policy, Guidlines, and Procedures
Policy:
In addition to the Twin Ridges board adopted field trip guidelines (attached), the following field trip guidelines will also be utilized by Forest Charter School:
- Parent and ES agree that the educational activity is appropriate for the student.
- The field trip must conform to all school policies, be approved by the ES, and have a written goals and objectives (tied to state standards) submitted prior to the event.
- The school does not pay for season passes, but for specific events, educational services and activities only. Field trips can be financed by Instructional funding only for currently enrolled students.
- If during a field trip an ES or parent will be transporting students other than their own children, a “Parent Permission” form must be filled out and a copy kept in the office AND with all students on the trip.
- After the field trip has taken place, the ES must record the learning and activities on the students next Learning Record.
- NO REFUND POLICY: Once the permission slip and payment are received in the office, instructional funds and parent payments cannot be refunded.
- Field trips must take place during the school year - not before or after school is out.
- Field trips that are funded through student budgets must take place on days school is in session.
School-Wide Field Trip (SWFT) Procedure:
Definition: A “School-Wide” field trip is a trip coordinated and set-up by the school field trip coordinator that is open to any students in FCS.
Prior to Trip:
- Coordinator will seek approval of trip from business manager.
- Coordinator will set-up field trip days/ times/ costs with vendor.
- Coordinator will advertise field trip to ES’s who will pass along information to families.
- Coordinator will submit PO, instructional learning set-up form, course description, and goals and objectives to office.
- Families will seek ES approval and ES’s will e-mail coordinator with permission to attend after verifying budgets.
- Families will mail payment for any private paying siblings or adults to coordinator by deadline.
- Coordinator will send final list of attendees to office.
- Office staff will encumber budgets and submit to district office.
- District office will mail payment to vendor for FCS students and coordinator will mail payment for all private pay students.
After the Trip:
- ES’s whose students attended trip will include learning from field trip description in their learning record.
- Parents/ES’s will e-mail any comments or suggestions to coordinator.
Small Group field trip (SGFT) Procedure:
Definition: A “Small Group” field trip is a trip coordinated and set-up by a parent or ES for a small group of students.
Prior to Trip:
- ES will seek approval of trip from business manager.
- ES/Parent will set-up field trip days/ times/ costs with vendor.
- ES/parent will advertise field trip to families they wish to include.
- Families reserve a spot for the field trip by e-mailing the SGFT contact person.
- ES will submit PO, instructional learning set-up form, course description, and goals and objectives to office.
- SGFT contact will send final list of attendees to office.
- Office staff will encumber budgets and submit to district office.
- District office will mail payment to vendor for FCS students and coordinator will mail payment for all private pay attendees.
After the Trip:
- ES’s whose students attended trip will include learning from field trip description in their learning record.
- Parents/ES’s will e-mail any comments or suggestions to coordinator.
Parent Guided field trip (PGFT) Procedure:
Definition: A “Parent Guided” field trip is a trip coordinated and set-up by a parent for their own family exclusively.
Prior to Trip:
- ES will seek approval of trip from business manager.
- Parent will set-up field trip days/ times/ costs with vendor.
- ES will submit PO, instructional learning set-up form, course description, goals and objectives, and list of family members attending to office.
- Office staff will encumber budgets and submit to district office.
- District office will mail payment to vendor for FCS students and parent will mail payment for all private pay attendees.
- ES will record learning on learning record.
